If you follow our Instagram stories any, then you may have seen that I had to put down my sweet old dog on Christmas Eve, and I had began fostering a young puppy shortly after. My heart was in pieces and I was unsure if I would be able to welcome a new dog in my life, but I figured that I could foster in the meantime and make a difference.
He melted my heart immediately. The entire way home he snuggled up close and he stared those big blues right into my eyes. It was one of the most precious moments of my life and we bonded instantly. He is so beautiful. He has spunky ears that never know if they are sticking up or hanging down, and I swear, the most prominent ear always hangs down low when he first wakes up, as if it were still just sleeping itself. Within an hour though, it's awake and sticking up high again. He practically came potty trained and was already doing commands like 'sit' and 'high five' at less than eight weeks old. He doesn't have a single mean bone in his body and is always a goofball looking for laughs. He is good with other dogs, with babies, and with young kids. He wants to be everyone's new best friend and sometimes would wag his tail so fast and happy that it seemed like he could almost fly away. Watching him grow has truly been the light of my life for the last few weeks, and I was honored to be raising such a good boy.
And then enters Rocky. Well, to the PhillyBullyTeam Rescue he is 'Ghiradelli', but for some reason on the day we picked him up, 'Rocky' just really made sense. Not only was his litter of puppies was found in an abandoned house, but he also had a bum little paw that seemed as though it was caught wrapped tightly with a string of sorts when he was just weeks old and it was really in dire need of healing. We picked him up in Philadelphia and he was a strong little fighter, so 'Rocky' really fit his feisty gray little self so well.
Last night though, he was abruptly attacked by a larger dog in our home. We have no idea what the trigger was, as there were no food or toys around. We separated them immediately, but unfortunately, this little guy didn't get away so lucky. He got a pretty good bite on his face, that clamped down on his closed mouth. This caused his jaw to fracture and a good bit of gums were missing. We rushed him to our emergency vet as his lungs filled with blood and he was fighting for his life.
Currently, he is weaning off of oxygen and stable, but he will need extensive dentistry surgery to survive and the medical bills will be immense. The PhillyBullyTeam is covering all of his medical expenses, but as a rescue with over 100 dogs currently, and many of them also needing a lot of care, your donation means absolutely everything to them right now (and really, always.) Every single employee and volunteer of PHBT are pure angels and do such incredible work on the daily, saving thousands of pitbulls in the last few years. You can also donate to them directly if you wish here.
Whether you purchase a raffle ticket, donate directly, or simply share about PHBT on social media to get the word out further, I can't express my gratitude enough. This little boy means the world to me, and he deserves the best life possible.
