Candelles Concoctions: Peppermint Mocha

The cooler days are upon us and we love to take this changing of the seasons as an opportunity to slow down, embrace a cozier pace and create intentional rituals to bring warmth into our lives during the snowy winter days ahead. One special way that we do this is by mindfully beginning our mornings, setting the tone for a comforting, peaceful day. Lighting our favorite winter weather candle in the morning adds a soft warm glow through the house as we take a moment to really appreciate the cozy, nostalgic feelings of looking out frosty windows while a steaming cup of coffee warms our hands. These small moments are truly where the magic is, my friends.

To help you intentionally create more magic in your world, we've partnered with our friends at Commonplace Coffee to share a special recipe to warm you up during the winter months. Our Peppermint Mocha recipe is full of rich, creamy chocolate and bright peppermint extract to energize you after a relaxing winter's sleep. For this recipe, we opted for Commonplace's Morning Blend - this beautifully balanced coffee has a savory body with a hint of plum, and is the perfect roast to start your day. Pair it with our Blue Spruce candle, and you are on your way to a truly dreamy morning.
Well, enough talking about it - let's get making! This recipe is perfectly portioned to make 2 Peppermint Mocha lattes, so you can share this sweet treat with a friend.  Pro tip: double up on the milk mixture and store the extras in a repurposed Candelles lidded vessel to add to your coffee for an easy way to enjoy this delicious drink throughout the week. What You'll Need:

3/4 C Oat Milk
2 TBSP Sugar
1 TBSP Cocoa Powder
1 1/2 C Freshly Brewed Coffee
1/4 Tsp Peppermint Extract
1/4 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Whipped Cream, Crushed Peppermints,
and Chocolate Shavings for Garnish

Directions:

1. In a saucepan over medium heat, make peppermint mocha creamer by combining oat milk, sugar, and cocoa powder. Heat until it starts to bubble and the sugar is dissolved.
2. Meanwhile, prepare your coffee however you prefer. We personally love a good pour over - you can get our tips for the perfect pour over here.
3. Add Peppermint and Vanilla Extract to the creamer mixture, stir to combine.
4. Fill your mug approximately 2/3 with coffee, fill the rest of the way with the peppermint mocha creamer. Top with whipped cream, crushed peppermints, and chocolate shavings.
5. Cheers! Enjoy this delicious wintertime sip!
